Interview with Habibah Sanusi of Beeloved Fragrances!!!
1.Please tell us a little more about yourself? --->
Hi. My name is Habibah Sanusi, I am from Katsina state. I have keen interest in fragrances, self discovery and innovation. I started out as a perfume designer last year, while studying amongst other things.
2.How did this all start? --->
It all started with a dream I have nurtured since I was really little to have my own fragrance bearing my name and sitting on my dresser. As a kid I used to make cosmetic products with my mother, I was also into arts and crafts. I started making home made fragrances recently and decided it was time to have my own perfume so I went in search of a professional perfume making company that will produce my work, and that happened to be in France. And here we are today, with my first fragrance, Beloved 50ml eau de parfum not only sitting on my dresser but also on others' as well as in stores.
3.Where do you hope to see yourself in the next 5years? --->
I see myself in the next five years with multiple fragrance products lines, dominating the fragrance and beauty markets home and abroad.
4.How do you plan to make this product more accessible here in Nigeria? --->
Well I have already started, as you know it is available in Nigeria, being my company base. We having stores who are interested in having the product sold at their stores, and we are also reaching out to as many stores as possible nationwide so it can be easily accessible everywhere. I am hoping to launch our own brand store soon, so we'll be your one stop to your BeeLoved fragrances products shopping.
5.What are the challenges involved in starting a perfume line? --->
The challenges in starting a perfume line are synonymous to those in starting a new business. First you have to know what type of products you want, for me the biggest challenge was finding a production company that will produce my work exclusively. I was lucky I received a lot of offers and finally made my choice in France, being the number one place for scents, fragrance and perfume making.
My other challenge is being accepted by the people whom I have made my number one customers (Nigerians). Most people believe a designers perfume has to be a foreign product or brand which has become a household name like Gucci and the rest. Well I am making steps to evolve as a brand and a household name as well, so soon I be like Gucci, or my favourite brand, Estee Lauder. (LOL).
6.What has it been like so far? --->
The journey has been a roller coaster ride, full of fun and alot to learn. It's been so wonderful and I thank God for blessing me with such a gift, inspirations and the joy of having my dreams come true.
7.What advice do you have for other young ladies out there trying to pursue their dreams? --->
GO for it. The hardest part is starting out, once you think it, you dream it and the best part of it all is living to enjoy your work and dreams. Nothing is ever too small to achieve! Don't wait for the ride, be your ride and take yourself there!!!
